Adobe Indesign

In this series I will be demonstrating how to create a small project in Adobe Indesign from start to finish. To help break down the process I have structured the course in 3 main sections:

Step 1 – Preparation

Step 2 – Implementation

Step 3 – Finalisation

Along the way we will be covering many topics, such as how to set up your document, understand how the program works, use text in Indesign, prepare and import images into indesign and finally export your document ready for print.

What is Adobe Indesign?

  • Create print media faster than ever

Adobe Indesign

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing software application produced by Adobe Systems. It can be used to create works such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers and books. InDesign can also publish content suitable for tablet devices in conjunction with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. Graphic designers and production artists are the principal users, creating and laying out periodical publications, posters, and print media.

Some of my highlights

A desktop publishing system allows you to use different typefaces, specify various margins and justifications, and embed illustrations and graphs directly into the text. The most powerful desktop publishing systems enable you to create illustrations, while less powerful systems let you insert illustrations created by other programs.

InDesign is a layout program from Adobe that graphic designers use to combine text and images. It has powerful control over typography and although it may be a little intimidating to learn at first, you’ll pick it up quickly and never go back to laying out your graphics and type in Illustrator or Photoshop!

Picture it: you’re all done designing and laying out a beautiful 500 page book and the client comes back to you and says, “We really need to make those blue subtitles red and delete the book’s title at the bottom of all the right hand pages. Oh, and we need to send it to the printer today.”

Ok, so maybe that’s an extreme example, but can you just see it? Forget today! Changing all those elements on every page would take a century! If only you had set up your master pages and paragraph styles before you started%u2026.

Shortcuts will make using any program more intuitive and you will be glad you can work as fast as you can think. No more hunting around for the Move Tool or the Pen Tool, just learn the key command!
